Euro 2008 Innsbruck Tourist
Information
The
Austrian city of Innsbruck
is more famous for winter sports than football - Innsbruck held the winter
Olympic games for Austria in 1964 and 1976 - and is surrounded by ski villages in this
beautiful part of the Alps. Innsbruck is the provincial capital of the Tirol
region of Austria and was known as 'Land im Gebirge', or 'Land in the mountains', in
medieval times.
Accommodation in Innsbruck for Euro 2008 will, as you would expect, be at a
premium but Innsbruck is perhaps more able to deal with an influx of
visitors better than most of the host cities. There are literally hundreds
of hotels dotted in and around Innsbruck - if you are prepared to travel a
little.
There are
also many guesthouses and themed hotels around Innsbruck offering the local
culinary delights. You could also rent one of the many holiday homes or, for
those on a limited budget, go camping. There are many campsites in and
around Innsbruck and you are almost guaranteed stunning Alpine scenery.
If you fly
to Innsbruck the city's airport offers quick and easy transfers to the main
train station via a public bus service that runs every 15 minutes. Pay a
couple of Euros and you'll be at the main station in around 10 minutes.
From there, the excellent rail links will take you anywhere you want to go.
