Euro 2008 Vienna Tourist Information

Vienna is a city of many faces.  Famous for it's many beautiful parks numerous opera houses and concert venues that serve up the best of Mozart and Strauss,  Vienna still conjures up an air of mystery and espionage. During the Cold War, neutral Vienna sat between the East and West - and was often a location for secret meetings. John F. Kennedy met with Communist leader Nikita Khrushchev here just a year before the Cuban missile crisis.

Vienna is a city that should not be missed. There is something here for everyone. Vienna is scattered with museums and historic sites and the public transport in Vienna is superb. To get the most out of your stay here you must buy the Vienna Card. Available at many Vienna hotels and the Tourist Information Centre on Albertinaplatz the card gives you unlimited travel on public transport for 72 hours plus discounts at over 200 museums, sights, restaurants, bars and cafés.

Cheap accommodation in Vienna can be found in one of the nine Youth Hostels here. Vienna also has several campsites on the edges of the city. Camping in Vienna is a great alternative to a hotel in the summer. Stay at the Neue Donau Campsite and use the Danube as a free swimming pool!

Vienna has a lively pub and club scene. In the centre of the city look for the 'Bermuda Triangle' - An area of pubs and bars to suit all tastes and budgets. To find live music and DJs you will generally have to look away from Vienna's centre. You will not have a problem finding a good place to celebrate England's triumph - Vienna is one of the safest cities in Europe and transport links throughout the night are more than adequate.

Vienna Euro 2008 Stadium - Ernst Happel Stadion

The Ernst Happel Stadium will host the European Championship Final in 2008. With a capacity of around 49,000, the stadium has been awarded 5 star status by the UEFA committee. The Ernst Happel Stadion set the scene as David James disgraced both himself and his country with one of the most shocking mistakes yet witnessed by an England goalkeeper during England's World Cup 2006 Qualifier with Austria. Let us all hope and pray that James is no longer around come the Euro 2008 final!
