Euro 2008 Berne/Bern Tourist
Information
Berne is
the federal capital of Switzerland and the country's most visited city. As
with many of the host cities for the European Championships 2008, Bern is a
relatively small city with excellent transport links so getting around Bern
shouldn't prove a problem. You can even hire a bicycle for free during the
summer.
Hotels in
Berne can be found at reasonable prices but booking a hotel in Bern should
be done well in advance. Leave it too late and you may find yourself with no
option but to book into one of the exclusive hotels in Berne and face some
harsh words from the Missus and/or Bank Manager. Failing that, Berne houses
two campsites within a reasonable distance of the city centre. If camping
isn't really your thing try the Youth Hostel - If you can get in. The Youth
Hostel in Berne is always full in the summer and there is a 3 day maximum
stay during this time.
The Old
Town of Bern is a UNESCO protected heritage site and looking around here you
can imagine yourself back in medieval times. If you're a culture vulture, a
horse and carriage trip around the streets of Berne is not to be missed and
tours run all day during the summer.
