Switzerland's Spectacular Beauty
Switzerland's mountaintops are covered with snow, even in June. Jungfraujoch, the "Rooftop of Europe" is situated in the Swiss Alps and is the most breathtakingly beautiful place I have ever traveled to. It is 11,333 ft. in elevation with the view in every direction of snowcapped mountains and blue sky. As we threw snowballs at each other, the wind whipped a very cold air that was below 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
The travel to arrive at this destination began in Interlaken, Switzerland and took several hours. We first traveled on a specially reserved railway that took us halfway up the mountain. The scenery was picturesque with Swiss chalets and waterfalls amongst wide open spaces that spoke tranquility to me. We then rode a cog train that went straight up the mountain. As the train moved forward, I imagined what it would be like at the top.
At the top of these glaciers, it was magnificent! I was surprised to find a little village built into the mountain with a full scientific observatory and weather station, Ice Palace glacier museum, full service restaurant, gift shop a post office! The altitude was so high that we became short of breath and had to pace our activities to feel physically comfortable. At the top of these mountains, we had a sit down lunch and then explored the wonders of the Ice Palace Museum that was carved right into the side of the mountain.
This was a dream come true! I had always dreamed of traveling to Switzerland as a little girl and it was everything I imagined it to be.
